Here is your first question. Remember to post your response (250 or more words) as a NEW blog post, NOT a comment. It must be posted by 6/28, 6 PM.
Chapter 14 of Everything’s an Argument covers Visual Argument. Considering what it means to be visually literate, CLOSELY analyze two of the movie previews linked below. Compare and contrast the way the images are used from preview to preview. Also, feel free to locate another preview you think relates to your analysis and provide a link in your posting. (No more than one more)
Consider the questions listed for analyzing visual arguments in the chapter, but also look at other sections on how images are employed effectively. Provide some quotations in your analysis of specific images and implicit arguments from these previews.

Blog POSTINGS – Total 100 points
Beginning on the end of the first week, I will post discussion question(s) on the blog site concerning the assigned readings, viewings, and/or posted media. You will post a 250 or more word response to this question, employing direct evidence from the readings - short quotations and paraphrases. You may also reference other readings and/or media examples found online or from memory –along with insights from other students’ posts in these responses. In fact, doing so is encouraged and will improve your grade.
It is a good idea to save your blog response as you go along. The due dates for each of these are 6/28, 7/1, 7/5, and 7/14. These will NOT be accepted late. While these are more informal writings than your essays, I expect you to take them seriously. I will expect you to intelligently engage the readings in these writing.
Blog Participation – Total 15 points
You will be expected to post comments on your peers’ blog postings. You are required to post AT LEAST five of these (min. 50 words), with at least one for each question. Of course, I am hoping you will comment much more than the requirement.
These should be more informal than the blog postings, but should feed into discussions. You are also welcome to comment upon comments made about your own blog as part of this requirement.
I expect you to do at least of one of these a week while we blog. After the week of 7/15, you will not be allowed to post anything. Also, every class meeting following the blog deadline, we will have discussion periods concerning the content. You will be expected to bring your laptop on those days and participate in the open discussions.
Progress Reports and Grading
After the first two posts, you will be given a cumulative grade for your blog activities. If you are not participating, you might receive a warning earlier.
Respecting Others
Because class participation relies heavily on individuals feeling comfortable expressing their opinions, you must always show respect for the diversity of opinions expressed in this class. You must also demonstrate respect for differences in gender, race, ethnicity, class, and sexual orientation among your peers and instructor. This, of course, extends to the class blog as well. Any conduct that disrupts the learning process may lead to disciplinary action. Also, in general, I expect a civil and friendly tone to be used on this blog at all times. Name-calling or juvenile attacks will not be tolerated and will adversely affect your grade. They could also lead to disciplinary action by the university. The instructor has the right to omit any post at any time.
